Hospital Profile

  • 1968 - On 14th January, the first Lions Cancer Detection Centre sponsored by Lions Club of Surat (Main) inaugurated by Shri Hitendra Desai, the erstwhile Chief Minister of Gujarat.
  • 1972 - On 21-03-72 the Trust was registered under the Bombay Public Charitable Trust Act of 1950. On 20th July, 1972 the first clinic managed by the Trust was inaugurated by Dr. Ashok Mehta ofTata Memorial Hospital, Bombay.
  • 1980 - The Government granted a plot admeasuring 2000 Sq.mts. first patient was treated with the radiotherapy on ] 4th June 1980 on Gammarex Machine.
  • 1982 - The Centre has also been recognized by the South Gujarat University as an affiliate Institution of Government Medical College, Surat for teaching of Radiotherapy. The Centre works in collaboration with New Civil Hospital, Surat for Joint Management of Cancer patients. The Government of Gujarat have also accepted our request for 100% recurring grant.
  • 1983 - Brachtherapy (Internal Radiotherapy) facility. For this, District Planning Committee sanctioned Rs.2,50,000/- for Brachtherapy Unit and Rs.1,25,000/- for additional construction of the Brachytherapy Unit imported from Japan and installed in 1983.
  • 1984 - Department of Nuclear Medicine established in 1984. Nuclear Medicine facility is very useful in proper staging and management of cancer.
  • 1984 - Shri Sai Baba Satsang Mandal, Surat offered to build a Pathikashram. Government sanctioned a plot of 500 Sq.Mts for Puthikashrarn.
  • 1984 - Rs.50,000/- from the Central Government for Pathology Laboratory Equipment.
  • 1987 - Cobalt 60 Tele Therapy Unit - Theratron 780-C was purchased from ABCL, Canada. Rs. 5.00 Lacs from the State Government & Rs. 12 Lacs from Central Government.
  • 1991 - we procured flexible fibroptic Gastroduodenoscope and Bronchoscope by donation from Nargis Dutt Memorial Foundation, U.S.A.
  • 1994 - Life Insurance Corporation of India donated us well equipped Medical Van.
  • 1996 - New Cobalt Unit-PHOENIX was purchased from AECL, CANADA with Grant of Rs.50.00 Lacs from Ministry of Health, Government of India.
  • 1996 - Lions Clubs International Foundation granted us substantial grant of $ 75,000 for Sonography, Colonoscope, Boyles apparatus, Treatment planning system and ECG machine.
  • 1997 - we received M.P. Grant fund from Hon'ble Minister Shri Kashirambhai Rana for purchase of fully computerized Laboratory Equipments for our Centre.
  • 2003 - Padmashree Padmabhushan Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Chairman of Atomic Energy. Rs.24.00 Lacs from Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India for replacement of Cobalt source in Cobalt Machine and Rs. 34 lacs grant received in the year.
  • 2009 - Government allotted additional 600 sq. meter land for Linear Accelerator Project.
The Donation for Shri Devarajbhai Bavabhai Tejani Cancer Institute is 50% Exempted from Income Tax Under Section 80G.

MR. ARVIND C. TEJANI(CHAIRMAN)

Dear Members, It gives me immense pleasure & proud, while addressing you all as a Chairman of this Esteemed Cancer Institute.In fact, it was my dream to present before the community of Surat, a Unique project of Linear Accelerator along with other latest machines with modern technology for treatment of dreaded disease of cancer and by blessings of Almighty and Generosity of Donors and enormous support of kind hearted well wishers, we could materialize such marathon project within a short time and declared it open on 31th May 2014 for the benefit of ailing cancer patients. Our centre, with New Linear Project is unique of its kind, equipped with latest machines like Varian Medical System (USA) a Dual Energy Linear Accelerator remote control after loading; Brachytherapy Machine BEBIG (Germany) C.T. Simulator OPTIMA 580W(GE) for slice Citi Scan, Patient Positions System-RFA (Rosalina Instruments) supported by latest ancillary medical apparatus operated by efficient and experienced Doctors, physicists, technicians with precision skills and accuracy. We also possess and maintain Telecobalt machines which cater need of thousand of poor and needy patients were treatments are given absolutely free without any caste & creed. Our cobalt machine treatment and its establishment expenses are reimbursed from Grant of Govt. of Gujarat.

Although we have expanded the centre to its fullest capacity by installing latest machines for cancer treatments, we are desirous to enhance the treatment facilities to more number of patients by installing two more Linear Accelerator machines with relevant equipments in near future. We also intend to start a regular ward for surgery of cancer patients with atleast 100 beds capacity and there by convert our dream project in to a full flagged cancer hospital. We have approached the Govt. of Gujarat for allotting us additional land next to our existing centre, considering the heavy flow of patients of cancer.
